Our FAQs
Sip Safe is a Toronto-wide campaign created to tackle the growing issue of drink tampering, harassment, and unsafe nights out. We’re building a culture of safety — starting at the bar, extending into the streets, and protecting every guest who just wants to enjoy a night out without fear.
We’re turning awareness into action. Sip Safe is about equipping venues, staff, and communities with real tools — from bystander training to drink covers to discreet safety codes — to help prevent harm and support those at risk.
July 14, 2025 marks the official launch of the Sip Safe campaign. We’re turning No Vacancy into a real-time example of what safer nightlife can look like—complete with trained staff, drink covers, safety signage, and more.
It’s part celebration, part statement — bringing the community together to spotlight what’s possible.
Proceeds from the event will help fund Sip Safe training, toolkits, and venue certifications across the city.
This is just the beginning. After July 14, we’re rolling out:
-
Workshops & staff trainings across bars and venues
-
Ask for Angela protocol training
-
Sip Safe kits with safety tools for venues
-
A “Sip Safe Certified” designation for participating bars
-
A long-term push to bring this into more spaces — from festivals to campuses
-
No. While many of the issues disproportionately impact women and gender-diverse people, anyone can be a target of drink tampering or harassment. Sip Safe is for everyone — guests, staff, friends — because safety isn’t gendered.
Started by one deeply passionate person.
Powered by a team of nightlife professionals, community organizers, and safety advocates who were tired of hearing “this keeps happening” without seeing change. We believe safety doesn’t have to be boring — it can be bold, smart, and culture-shifting.

Because we’ve heard too many “this happened to me” stories.
Because 1 in 3 Canadians say they or someone they know has been drugged.
Because going out shouldn’t come with a fear tax.Because we’re at a tipping point.
Drink spiking cases are on the rise across Canada, with many going unreported due to stigma or lack of evidence.
Harassment in nightlife spaces continues to be normalized or brushed off.
A new generation of hospitality workers has entered the industry post-pandemic, many without formal training in crisis response, de-escalation, or guest safety.
And recent policy changes have made bars more legally accountable, especially around overserving, duty of care, and liability in cases of harm.
We’re not just seeing isolated incidents.
We’re seeing patterns.
And those patterns demand action.
This campaign exists to help bars and communities respond—not react—to the realities of going out today.
